VOCATIONAL SKILL TRAINING (PDO & SAVE THE CHILDREN).

• Due to recurrent shocks, traditional production systems have been compromised and thus the need for alternative livelihoods as a way of building community resilience against shocks. The livestock and crop production systems have continued to register declining returns due to recurrent shocks. Through the proposed project, unemployed youth will be equipped with TVET skills to facilitate their engagement with alternative livelihoods for improved household food security.

ACTIVITIES

The Activities at the Vocational Training Centre in Qardho Implemented by Puntland Development Organization (PDO) and supported by MoLYS-Puntland was based on the skills which were Electricity, Plumbing, Welding, Carpentry and Tailoring for a total of 84 youth for a period of 5 Months. The different training skills were conducted by five qualified Teachers respectively. The trainers were also conducting monthly exams to know the understanding of the trainees in each and every category.

ACHIEVEMENT

Over the period that the TVET training has been going on a lot of achievements were made as follows: –

1. 36 Tailoring Youth successfully completed the tailoring training course for a period of 5 Months.
2. 13 Electricity Youth successfully completed the Electric training course for a period of 5 Months
3. 5 Plumbing Youth successfully completed the Plumbing training course for a period of 5 Months
4. 15 Welding Youth successfully completed the Welding training course for a period of 5 Months
5. 15 Carpentry Youth successfully completed the Carpentry training course for a period of 5 Months
6. Qualified skilled individuals were achieved for all the above-mentioned courses totalling to 84 Youth.
7. Some of the Youth are already working on their independent skill opportunities in the Market.

CONCLUSION

The Five Month period that the skill training courses have been going on all the concerned parties worked extra hard to make sure the youth achieve their goals and became qualified skilful persons among the community. In future projects we hope and expect an increment to the number of youths to be trained as well the duration so that many more Youth in the society take advantage of the golden opportunity.
